The movie’s pace appropriately follows the character’s slow descent into madness, but the movie’s content is horrific. ![]() ![]() The filmmakers deftly capture the mood of Thompson’s pulp novel. There are no morally redeeming elements in the movie whatsoever. THE KILLER INSIDE ME is brutal, graphic, violent, misogynistic, and pagan. Eventually, Lou snaps and spirals into a sociopathic killing spree, violently destroying several people in town, from the local prostitute to his long-time girlfriend. Everyone in town trusts him, but, buried deep within his psyche, is a dark secret, a secret of repressed violence and aberrant sexuality. He’s lived in the same, small, West Texas town all his life. It stars Casey Affleck as a 1950’s police officer whose repressed childhood memories of violence and molestation drive him to commit heinous murders. THE KILLER INSIDE ME is based on the pulp novel of the same name by Jim Thompson. ![]()
